João Miguel Mendes Ferreirasofias
João Ferreira has a bachelor’s degree in Biology and Geology since 2014 from University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD). Moreover, since 2017, João holds a master’s degree in Biotechnology for the Health Sciences from UTAD, where he presented the master’s dissertation entitled “Potential of Seaweeds from the Portuguese Coast as Functional Food: Beneficial Effects in Drosophila melanogaster”. Currently, João is a PhD student in the doctoral program Do*Mar in UTAD, as well as a member of the Animal and Veterinary Research Centre (CECAV). João is focused on the “Evaluation of seaweeds protective effects against genetic damage induced by ionizing radiation emitted by radon – resources valorization and health innovation”. Regarding publications and communications, João has 1 article in an international peer-reviewed journal, 14 abstracts in scientific meetings, 6 oral communications (best presentation award in an international meeting) and 10 posters. In addition, João has taught a workshop, has helped in the organization of numerous events, has more than 150 h of certified volunteering and supplemented his education with several complementary courses.
