Mário Pedro Gonçalves Cotoviosofias
Graduated in Veterinary Medicine at University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) in 1999. Public tests of Pedagogical Aptitude and Scientific Capacity at UTAD in 2003. Diploma of Specialized Studies in Medicine and Animal Health by the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) in 2003. Master's Degree in Initiation to Research in Medicine and Animal Health by UAB in 2005. PhD in Medicine and Animal Health by the UAB in 2008. The academic activity as a teacher at UTAD began in 1999 and since 2008 is Professor at the Veterinarian Science Department, teaching in the Degree in Veterinary Medicine and later in the Integrated Master in Veterinary Medicine, lecturing on Veterinary Pharmacology and Equine medicine and surgery. Additionally, is the scientific coordinator of several dissertations of Integrated Masters in Veterinary Medicine. Clinical Director of the Equine and Large Animal Hospital of UTAD from 2008 to 2015. Member of the Direction of Integrated Master in Veterinary Medicine in 2009-11. Deputy Director of the Veterinary Hospital of UTAD in 2010-13.
Author of some studies about diagnostic and prognostic factors related to biologic issues in horses (normal physiology in Lusitano horses and disseminated intravascular coagulation, inflammation and neoplasia in horses) contributing to animal and human health and welfare. Simultaneously it has developed its scientific orientation of PhD Theses in these areas. Performed other studies on nutrition and digestibility in the horse. Also participates in studies related to prevalence and epidemiological integrative studies on zoonosis affecting horses, contributing for their monitoring and evaluation of strategies for its mitigation under One Health concept.
