Severiano José Cruz da Rocha e Silvasofias
Severiano R Silva received his degree in Animal Science engineering in 1987 from the Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD). After doing his military service at Cavalry Arm, in 1989 he became Assistant at UTAD and in 2001 obtained his PhD and in 2012 the Habilitation degree in Animal Science. Currently, he is Associate Professor of the Animal Science Department at UTAD and member of the Animal and Veterinary Research Centre (CECAV). He participates in several projects and between 2012 and 2015 he was a member of the management committee of the COST Action FA1102 lead by Prof Lutz Bunger, SRUC “Optimising and standardising non-destructive imaging and spectroscopic methods to improve the determination of body composition and meat quality in farm animal (FAIM)”. The primary fields of research interest are related to animal welfare and non-invasive techniques to predict carcass and animal body composition. He has authored or co-authored 48 (39 ISI) research papers; 20 book chapters; 125 paper or abstracts in international meetings. He is a referee in impact journals including Journal of Animal Science; Meat Science; PlosOne; Small Ruminant Research; Livestock Science; Animal Production Science. He supervised 2 PhD and 35 MSc students.
